Our Story
In 1989, our designer, Min Chiu, started making her hand-crafted gift items from her basement in Troy, Michigan, which she sold at craft shows throughout the state.
In 2001, she founded Cathayana to take her designs to US tradeshows as a wholesaler.
In 2013, Min started introducing artisanal luxury offerings, starting with a collection of hand made shibori silk scarves in hand dyed silk all created in her Troy based studio.
Cathayana's products have since been carried in many galleries, museums shops, boutique stores, and gift shop across the United States. We also have retailer customers in Canada and UK.
